The Big Event!

We started our last day of class by making wearable sculpture out of paper. This helped us to understand ways that artists like ourselves use the body as an armature for form and plan for how sculptures can move with the body.

It just so happened that MassArt sculpture students use our room during
the week and one of them was working on a paper dress!

Some of us chose to wear our work to our gallery reception!

It was a big turn out!

A big thank you to all the adults, parents, family, and Saturday Studios faculty and staff who supported the students' work for the past eight weeks. I have learned so much teaching these young sculptors and will miss them very much. I enjoyed making each of them cards by drawing their sculptures and writing a note about their achievements. Drawing their work was fascinating because it gave me a new appreciation of their thinking and of the complexity of their forms. Inside the envelopes each student received a photograph of themselves working, working with a classmate, and an artwork or two by artists whose work I think relates to their own.

Have a wonderful summer and keep making art!

Exhibiting Artists, reminder: NO CLASS ON APRIL 25TH!

We won't be having lass on April 25th because all of the Saturday Studios teachers will be busy preparing your work for exhibition. We will be celebrating eight weeks of hard work and fun! Class will be held on May 2nd, followed by a reception from 11:30 - 12:00. All work will be sent home with you. See you then!

We are very excited about exhibiting the work from all the Saturday Studios classes! The exhibit will run from April 27 - May 2nd followed by a reception on Saturday, May 2nd at 11:30 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Class #7 - Now is it done?!

In class last week we finished up projects and talked about our exhibition. We took a look at the gallery space where our work will go and took a look at the show coming down in the Student Life Gallery. We were fortunate to run into the curators, who were nice enough to explain their thoughts about planning it.

It will be a really big show!

Hello to my students and to the adults who belong to them!

We are very excited about exhibiting the work from all the Saturday Studios classes! The exhibit will run from April 27 - May 2nd followed by a reception on Saturday, May 2nd at 11:30 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

This week (Saturday, 4/18), we will be focusing on finishing work and planning the exhibition. Considerations will include: When is an artwork done? Does describing an artwork add to our understanding or subtract from it? Does our art as a class have something in common? We will be selecting the work for the show and how it will be displayed. You will be receiving invitations at the end of class but here is a digital version in the meantime.

ALL WORK THAT ISN'T GOING INTO THE SHOW WILL BE GOING HOME WITH YOU THIS SATURDAY! MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO CARRY IT IN OR SOME HELPING HANDS!
